This is one of my favorite pictures that I’ve taken of Amber for a few reasons:
- It was taken while we were on a road trip. We have so much fun on our road trips together through all of Georgia’s strange little places. They’re our favorite thing we do together other than fuck.
- It’s meta, and we love us some meta.
- It’s the best job I’ve done of capturing one of my favorite little things about her, which is the way her ears peak out from behind her hair.
Plus, I think objectively it’s just a pretty good photo. Good composition, contrast, detail, interesting angle, all that.
Today is our three-year anniversary! Amber put together a well-sourced nerd love retrospective here. We’ll be having a nice dinner together tonight (thanks to everyone who left suggestions a couple of posts ago), and hopefully many more road trips in the future.
Note: yes I ripped off Amber’s title

A couple of months ago, I was introduced to passiveaggressivenotes.com, and instantly got hooked on it. It’s fascinating and hilarious. Now a note I photographed about a month ago at my apartment made it on there!
If you would check it out sometime soon, that’d be great. You can view it here. Thanks.

I just passed Flickr photo number 2,000 today with this photo, from a set taken at the Rogers Street rail yard a little over a year ago:

I expect to hit 3,000 photos much more quickly than I hit 1,000 or 2,000, given that there will probably be 2,400 or 2,500 when all the photos from my Gallery are moved to Flickr. I’ve been deleting sets from there after they’re ported over using the awesome Gallery2Flickr plugin.
I doubt I’ll catch up to Amber anytime soon. She’s got over 4,300 photos.

Amber and I just got back from a road trip. I am exhausted! At various points over the past four days, we passed through Augusta, GA; Columbia, SC; Washington, GA; Warrenton, GA; and Camak, GA. Most of the time was spent in Columbia, where Amber was doing some family history research.

My blogging energy this week has been spent preparing the next edition of the Georgia Carnival of Bloggers, which will go up tomorrow morning. In the meantime, all I’ve got for you is a screengrab from my Bloglines:

I think it’s funny that the Atlanta Journal-Constitution still uses this spelling of "headline" in their stubs.
If you’re looking for something else to do, check out this Atlanta Press Club podcast with CDC director Julie Gerberding.

I got to see Amber pole dance in-person at her studio’s student show for the first time last night (save for a little bit of practice I got to see her do on the pole we set up in the apartment earlier this week). And..wow!
Anybody who says pole dancing isn’t hard doesn’t know what they’re talking about. She was flying around, upside down, sliding and spinning down, generally defying gravity with a lot of the things she was doing.
Aside from the energy level of her routine and the acrobatics involved, impressive enough on their own, I was also impressed by the swagger and confidence Amber had. If you know her, you know she is fiercely intelligent, but you probably don’t think of her as physically imposing. Well, she looked ready to boot some unruly customers in the face if they broke the house rules last night.
It’s no small thing to get up and perform in front of a group of people. It was her first time dancing in front of a group of strangers, and she was a little nervous going in. I’ve been telling her the whole time leading up to the show she was a gamer, and she proved me right last night. I’m proud of her!
Here are some photos I took of her afterward (it was too dark for photos during the show):

I‘ve been planning for a long time to move all the photos in Gallery (which I no longer use) to Flickr, and then deleting Gallery. But, I was dreading the idea of digging up photos from the old iPhoto library back-up on an external drive, reorganizing, and recaptioning them.
Enter Gallery2Flickr, an awesome Gallery plug-in. It remembers all the titles and captions, and if you export an entire Album will create an equivalent Flickr set.
I’ve moved almost 100 photos already, and plan to move the rest over the next couple of weeks, then delete Gallery. Here’s one you might remember from New Year’s 2006. Enjoy:

The air conditioning in our apartment has been out twice now, leaving us without a place to stay for four nights (one night the first time, three nights this time). As you can see in the photo, it’s over 90 degrees in the apartment right now. Amber gets physically ill after a few minutes in there.
We stayed at a hotel for the first three nights, and Audacity was kind enough to put us up last night. It’s supposed to be fixed tonight, but I’ll believe it when I see it.
As such, my net access has been sporadic. It’s too bad, because I received a couple of interesting tips yesterday that I’d like to follow up on.
