These were taken a few weeks ago. They’re focused more on the Decatur Water Works than on the natural part of Mason Mill Park, as I didn’t know MMP was about to be gutted when I took them.
See the Three Forks Heritage Alliance web site for info on how to help stop the PATH project that will gut a lot of the wooded area.

I saw that Creative Loafing was following your lead on this story.
As much as I’d like to take credit for that, I’m pretty sure inDecatur and Decatur Metro were on it earlier than I was. GoDekalb probably had something as well.
I was actually pretty late on this story, and only found out about it because Dave Kaufman (who we interviewed in a podcast late last year) told us we should go look at the Decatur Water Works.
Pretty damn sad DeKalb County let something as cool as the old water works deteriorate into such poor condition. Not just Vernon, Bu Levetan and Maloof too.
Isn’t the water works suppossed to be haunted/MMP? Why destroy something so beautiful and historic?
Mary,
The PATH trail will not impact the old water works, other than to go on the ridge between the remains of the two dams. The old building and tanks, now deteriorating and covered with “artwork,” will remain as they are. The PATH trail will stop on the other side of the stone bridge. (PATH didn’t want to tangle with the Historic Society.)
