What a fucking freak show! HB1, if you’re not already aware, is Bobby Franklin’s South Dakota-esque proposal to ban all abortions in Georgia; that is unconstitutional; that they know damn well is unconstitutional; and that they are willing to spend your taxpayer dollars defending in court. The sunny side is Franklin has tried to get this to the floor without success in previous sessions, so it’s not likely to make it to the floor this year either.
Bernita just finished some fantastic work liveblogging the HB1 hearing. Her post is full of choice bits of dialog and you should consider it mandatory reading, but here’s what I believe to be the money shot:
11:11 am - now Bobby Franklin is saying that our rights come from God and not from government. And that is why the legislators are in session right now.
I hope someone has a video, because it would make spectacular YouTube fodder. Franklin was showing video of little baby skeletons and body parts. He is an unbalanced psychotic who is unfit to walk the street, much less the halls of the Legislature.

Video! Genius.
I will totally offer to video some crazy HB1 event if and when one comes to my town..
Good God. I fear people like this; and they are the ones that say we should be feared. Yikes.

If both the secession effort and the Voter ID laws were trying to be passed at the same time it wouldn’t be just one headline like that; it’d be hundreds. You can argue ’til you’re blue in the face that the measures aren’t racist. But put them both together, foment suspicion of ulterior motives with some anti-gay bigotry from last session and the batshit crazy folks trying to pass HB1 this session, and it becomes difficult to believe otherwise.
