Go check Joe’s posts (here and here) about the Superintendent race. I’m leaning toward voting for the Libertarian David Chastain, as Republican Kathy Cox and Democrat Denise Majette both appear to be more interested in pushing their religions than in doing their jobs. Shame on the AJC for endorsing Cox. Maybe a vote for Chastain would help lead to the abolishment of the state Board of Education altogether, which I would endorse. I wish Denise Majette would just go away.

The Big Guy and Gov. Land-Grab have stomped the campaign trail into a mud pit. But there are plenty of other candidates vying for public office this year in Georgia. Creative Loafing interviewed many and got the phone slammed down on them by others. The results: CL’s most comprehensive endorsement issue ever.

For serious, the Loaf really just endorsed Kathy with a K? Don’t we already have The Sunday Paper to endorse the flat earth types?
As Jason pointed out in his comment on Bloglanta, the Loaf also endorsed Robb Pitts when he was running for mayor vs. Shirley Franklin, back in the day.
In the last year I have researched the web and could not find any records or legislation that dealt with providing some kind of accommodations with in the Hope grant program for children with learning disabilities. This is very disturbing to me as a parent of a child with dyslexia. I currently have a child who is now a junior in high school who may not be able to qualify for the HOPE grant because of his grade point average which is a direct result of his dyslexia. This is a child, against all odds has maintained a grade point average of 78 in an effort to keep up mainstream students. It would be unconscionable to deny him funding through the HOPE program.
Educators are well aware that these children must give more than 200% in effort in order to achieve. The conventional wisdom is that a child with dyslexia performing at this grade level is comparable to the average student achieving a grade point average of 88. To deny him this opportunity would seem to be in direct opposition to the No Child Left Behind philosophy. I am a single parent of three black male children. I have instilled in them from birth the value of education. Financial assistance is vital and I need your assistance in helping to make this child’s dream of going to college come true. My plea is not only for my child but for all of the young people of Georgia who suffer with this disability through no fault of their own. Yet they will be penalized and isolated from the HOPE grant because their is no clause in the current legislation which will allows for special consideration for these students.
I am certain it was never the intent of those who framed the HOPE program to discriminate against Children with Disabilities. You many also wish to consider that these children are covered under Americans with Disabilities Act. I urge you to consider legislation that would make provisions for these students. History has proven that these children can become productive members of our society, i.e., I, Sr. Winston Churchill, Governor Nelson Rockefeller and Albert Einstein.
