Breeze tidbit

MARTA’s Breeze card machines run Windows 2000. I saw one rebooting this morning and almost got a photo, but the screen went blue just as I had my phone ready to shoot.

This weekend my uncle and a slew of cousins were watching a program on the Discovery Channel about giant squid. I didn’t realize that no one has ever seen one alive - in person OR on video. They’ve only ever found carcasses washed upon on beaches.

Anyway. This team of scientists launched an expedition with an elaborate set up with bait for giant squid and an automated camera. Something takes the bait and they start reeling in the apparatus. Attached to the “hook” is a huge, twitching tentacle. It’s unquestionably belonged to a giant squid. The giddy scientists play back the tape, eagerly anticipating humanity’s first glimpse of a live giant squid.

The camera failed to record.

They show the error message on the computer screen and without thinking I turn to my cousin and say, “Well what do you expect from Windows?”

All the rail stations have been converted, but I don’t know for certain about the buses, as there’s nothing in the FAQ on the web site.

I just emailed one of MARTA’s PR reps to see if she could answer either of those questions.
