A little while ago, after I took old one eye to the optometrist, I noticed a jug of anti-freeze that had been sitting by my desk for a few days and decided I wanted to get rid of it. Said anti-freeze was a type the GDGF bought thinking it would be compatible with her Jetta, but it turned out not to be. My truck also takes a haughty taughty type of coolant, so I’m offering this anti-freeze to the first taker:
If you would like some free anti-freeze, you can drop by the Ice House Lofts in Decatur and pick it up. It’s sitting on top of the mailboxes. It’s unopened. First come, first serve.

I’m buying a Volkswagen tomorrow. Stick it somewhere until the end of February and give it to me for my birthday.
Well, I don’t know why you’d want it as a birthday gift, since it won’t work in your Volkswagen. Hence this line:
Because the best gifts are failures.
You must be the greatest gift the world has ever received then. Hey, btw, are you free next Tuesday night?
UPDATE: Never fucking mind.
WTF kind of crazy snooty antifreeze do you have to buy if you own a Jetta?
It uses G12 antifreeze. Apparently it’s similar to Dexcool, but using anything other than G12 can destroy the engine.
And Rusty, FWIW, your post about the Going To Jim Ellis Volkswagen To Buy Antifreeze Adventure is currently the 6th Google hit for “g12 antifreeze volkswagen.”
As I found out with my Jetta when I put in the wrong coolant and had to get a “coolant flush” (which just sounds wrong) on top of getting my leaking coolant container fixed. Bastards.
Is it wrong, or is it oh so right?
I guess it’s kind of like getting one’s stomach pumped, only for a car.
I’m tempted to come get it just because.
G12 is a European type of coolant. I am a ASE Master Certified diesel and auto mechanic and I own a VW GTI. You can use other types of antifreeze as long as they are silicate/phosphate/borate free extended life ethelyne glycol types. I won’t buy a G12 because they are making you belive it special and they can charge an arm and a leg for it. Color doesn’t mean jack, as long as the chemical base is correct. Color is just a dye that manufactures use to call it their own.
