Congratulations…

To my friend Aaron, who posts here as Two Youtzs. He asked the second-coolest girl I know to marry him last night, and she said yes. Now don’t fuck it up!

A drop of bright paint in a bucket full of tar

by Rusty

The freedom of my team’s performance falling so, so far below expectations this year is I no longer get disappointed when they fail, and can take pleasure in the failures of my team’s rivals. With that in mind, HOW ‘BOUT THEM DAWGS?

hahahahahahaha

Hahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!1!!!11!!!

God, now I really feel like a Democrat (defining myself by the failure of others).

Find a blogger a job

by Rusty

Donnie over at Cadillac Tight is looking for gainful employment after some contract work fell through at the last minute. I’m passing the word in case anybody who reads this could use someone with his skills. He wrote:

I’ve placed a copy of my resume here. If you or anyone you know has a need for a Project Manager, Director of IT, Director of Software Development, or a pretty handy ORACLE or SQL/Server DBA, please email me at don.hall@cadillactight.com.

Just doing my good deed for the day, as my blog has been good to me for this sort of thing.

Voter ID law overturned

by Rusty

I was sort of apathetic about this law at first, but the more I read the happier I am it was struck down. The gist of it was people had to show state-issued identification to vote. The ID would have cost $20 and been valid for five years. So, not only was there a financial barrier to vote, but there’s also this from the Washington Post (login):

[T]he state recently reorganized the Department of Motor Vehicles, paring down the number of offices. After the reorganization, there were no DMV offices in Atlanta, a city with a wide black majority. The closest station is at least nine miles away. Fewer than 60 of the state’s 159 counties have DMV offices.

Where were people in the other 99 counties supposed to get IDs? I probably wouldn’t have a problem with this law if there were ID offices in every county and the IDs were free, but I now believe it was at least as bad as the ACLU said it was. Why didn’t I read those statistics about DMV offices and fees a year ago? Did I just somehow miss them?

Pillow talk

by Rusty

Me: [singing "Here I go" by Whitesnake]
GDGF: “Don’t bring your inner redneck into this.”
Me: “He likes to watch. He’s a voyeur. He reclines in his armchair, wrapped in a confederate flag, breath smelling of whiskey and chewing tobacco, howling dog tied in the bed of his pick-up truck, shooting holes in the ceiling, jerking off ’til the cows come home.”

More MARTA

by Rusty

I don’t even know why I bitch anymore. I should just approach my dealings with Atlanta’s rickety mass transit system as a Zen master and accept my fate as inevitable. Anyway, my boss and I were returning from North Georgia where we ran a public meeting, and he dropped me off at the East Lake MARTA station around 10 p.m. I was destined for the GDGF’s place in Midtown. The wait for a westbound train was reasonable, and I hopped it to the Five Points station. When I arrived, madness was waiting for me.

Itzanabortion

by Rusty

When I first saw the new Atlanta logo on the Metroblog, I thought they were joking. Being cute. Haha, that’s a good one fellas. I reckon you pulled a fast one on me. But then on my bus ride down from Scarietta to Midtown this morning, I noticed this assault on the senses dangling from a lamp post like a Lucent logo whose brains had to be shot out because the hangman couldn’t tie his noose properly.

Atlanta Logo

Goddamn it. I had a Whatizzit flashback.

Speaking of abortions…
