After meeting for only one day, the Republicans running the House Appropriations Committee have already added $3.5 million (login) in “local projects” (i.e. - pork) to Governor Perdue’s proposed $17.4 billion budget. House Appropriations Committee Chairman Ben Harbin said:
That’s just natural based on the fact that you have more Republicans representing Republican areas. … The last two years you’ve had no money. There is a lot of pent-up frustration.
Fiscal conservatives, indeed. I call them tax-and-spend civil obstructionists.
