I caught a cold earlier this week, and it’s about to knock me out. Creativity has been down the past few days as a result. No matter, though, because that makes this a good day for me to exert the grunt work necessary to throw together my NCAA football bowl picks contest. This is brand new and open to anyone who’d like to participate. It works just like the regular season contest did, except it’s a one-shot deal. We’re playing purely for pride unless someone wants to donate a prize because I’m a poor bastard with nothing material to offer. Click the jump for details.
It’s easy to play. Just look over the schedule below and determine which games you think the odds makers are wrong about, then enter your picks into the comments section of this post. For example:
“I’ll take the odds except for X bowl, Y bowl, and Z bowl.”
Odds came from Covers and were accurate as of Dec. 10 at 4:15 p.m. EDT. The deadline for all entries is Dec. 21. at 7 p.m. EDT, though if you want to pick against odds for the New Orleans Bowl you’ll need to have at least that pick in by Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. EDT. Otherwise, you’ll be given credit for taking odds in that game.

Am I the only who giggles when they see that Flori-duh and Miami are playing in the Peach Bowl?
Syracuse, Marshall, UTEP, and Tenn are the teams to beat the odds.
boston college, Tenn, Iowa State, and odds on everything else
odds except iowa state, notre dame, texas tech, florida, and oklahoma
Odds except the GMAC, Fort Worth, Continental Tire, and Cotton.
That’s Memphis over Bowling Green, Marshall over Cincinnati, Boston College over North Carolina, and Tennessee over Texas A&M for the bowl name-impaired.
Let’s see….Odds except Marshall, UConn, Iowa State, UTEP, Ohio State, Tennessee, Florida, and Oklahoma to win.
Odds except for Syracuse, Memphis, Marshall,Utep, Ohio State, Tennessee and Navy.
Damn, the bowl games have already started? Geez, where the hell have I been for the last week or two?
Ok, odds except Iowa State, Ohio State, Tennessee, and Boston College. If you want to dock me for the New Orleans bowl, that’s fine, though I swear on my mother’s grave that I have no idea who won that game.
Southern Miss took it, so no points docked for that game! I didn’t know who won that until I looked it up just now. Anybody who enters before Dec. 21 gets a free point, since oddsmakers were right. Anybody who doesn’t enter before Dec. 21 gets docked points for games they miss.
I haven’t fuly done the math or anything, but scanning through the picks, looks to me like I’ve got this competition wrapped up, no? I think Brian lost it once Mi-Hammi crushed the slimy reptilians. Anyone else have a shot?
I only checked in because I’m leaving town in the morning, so I won’t be here to gloat if you announce me as victor tomorrow. So I’ll just jump to the conclusion that I’ve won and chalk it up to Jen’s kindly decision not to enter.
